What is BOTOX?
Rejuvenate your facial skin with BOTOX injections to smooth wrinkles and fine lines in the upper section of your face. Men and women in San Francisco, CA seek out our board-certified plastic and reconstructive surgeon, Dr. Charles K. Lee. He performs each BOTOX injection with skill and precision — just like he would in surgery. Dr. Lee will provide the highest level of precision, expertise, and care during your injection session. BOTOX injections are not as simple as they seem, and Dr. Lee will create results you love with his understanding of the surgical and 3D anatomy of your face and nerves. BOTOX can be placed between the eyebrows, around the eyes (Crow's feet), and across the forehead.
BOTOX offers facial rejuvenation with proven results for men and women. BOTOX can make a dramatic improvement to ease lines and wrinkles, which are made from making expressions with the contracting muscles on the upper face. These facial lines may or may not go away as the face relaxes. BOTOX is a clean and purified strain of botulinum toxin (type A) that temporarily freezes the movements of the muscle. Do I Qualify for BOTOX?
BOTOX is great for patients who wish to soften the appearance of lines on their upper face without surgery. BOTOX is often thought of as a preventive anti-aging treatment even if you do not show signs of aging — think about how often you tend to make facial expressions. BOTOX is an effective noninvasive treatment if you have forehead wrinkles or frown lines between the brows. It is also a solution for lines that form around the eyes. If you experience deeper lines, an injectable filler may be more suitable. Dr. Lee may suggest both.
Furthermore, if you are over the age of 50 with moderate to severe skin laxity, you may opt for a facelift or a surgical procedure. A more intensive approach would deliver a dramatic result and can last years.
Dr. Lee's Injection Technique
BOTOX injectable treatments are performed here in our office at L Plastic Surgery. If it is your first time to visit our office for BOTOX, we commonly perform the injection on the same day as your consultation with Dr. Lee. He will perform the injections himself. You will be asked to make a number of expressions using your upper face, like squinting, frowning, etc., to help us to determine where the injections are best placed. The face will be cleaned and BOTOX will be injected through a fine needle, followed with a cool compress to help decrease swelling, bruising, and discomfort. You can request a numbing cream to make the procedure more comfortable, but it usually is not necessary. BOTOX treatments typically take around 10 – 15 minutes, and you can return to your normal activities with no required recovery period.
Your BOTOX Results
Following the BOTOX injection, you may get back to your typical routine, but strenuous exercise should be skipped for a minimum of one day. You will be advised to sleep upright for at least one night and to avoid touching your face, which can accidentally spread the treatment to other areas. The treated areas of your face can become bruised, swollen, or red for a few days, but you should not experience any serious or lasting side effects. In most cases, it typically takes around 5 – 7 days before the final results of BOTOX become visible. The results generally last 3 – 4 months. You should speak to your BOTOX injector about when to make touch-up appointments at L Plastic Surgery to refresh your results.
BOTOX FAQs
How long will my results last?
Improvements from BOTOX can last up to four months. Usually, patients make an appointment every season to refresh their results, but you may come back earlier. If you are using BOTOX as a preventive wrinkle treatment, you may be able to schedule visits further apart. After listening to your concerns and creating your BOTOX plan, Dr. Lee will be able to estimate when you should schedule your next injection session.
What's the difference between BOTOX, Dysport, and Xeomin?
BOTOX, Xeomin, and Dysport are brands of injectable wrinkle relaxers that contain botulinum toxin (type A). All three relax facial muscles to soften wrinkles; however, each formula is made to treat specific areas and needs. Some of the small differences between them include the amount in each dose, treatment spread, and how long the results last. Dr. Lee will choose the formula and dosage to match with your goals.
Is BOTOX safe for me?
Your injector is paramount to your safety when it comes to BOTOX injections. It is so important to seek out the skill of an expert injector like Dr. Lee. How your BOTOX is applied and how much is injected takes skill and experience. When applied properly, BOTOX rarely causes any complications. Dr. Lee only uses safe, proven products to treat his patient's skin. One of the most popular cosmetic treatments, it is considered safe and has earned approval from the Food and Drug Administration (FDA). In addition to cosmetic uses, BOTOX is also used to treat medical problems such as facial spasms, excessive sweating, uncontrollable blinking, and migraines.
