Dr. Lee has a special interest and expertise in Asian aesthetic surgery, specializing in eyelid, nose, and facial procedures. He combines his microsurgical precision and understanding of Asian beauty to create natural, lasting results. Over the past 10 years, he has traveled to Korea and Japan to both learn and teach about the most advanced techniques in Asian aesthetics and microsurgery. Oftentimes, Dr. Lee is called upon to treat patients who need revision surgery for patients who have had their procedures done elsewhere; the approach to these patients is similar to a reconstructive microsurgery, requiring careful operative planning and ultra-precise execution. Selection of an experienced, board certified plastic surgeon with expertise in Asian aesthetic procedures is one of the most critical factors in ensuring quality, natural, and lasting results.
Asian Eyelid Surgery/ Double Eyelid Surgery
Asian eyelid surgery is performed to create a fold for patients who may have absent, ill-defined, multiple, or asymmetric creases; in some cases, supra-tarsal crease blepharoplasty is done to improve eye irritation from inverted eyelashes. As with any eyelid procedure, a natural and youthful appearance is the most important goal; it is not to attain a Caucasian appearing eyelid. Asian eyelid surgery is a technically demanding procedure that requires a deep understanding of the anatomy of the Asian eyelid, precise planning and execution.
Dr. Lee performs Asian eyelid surgery using precision, microplastic techniques. He uses the finest German and Swiss instruments and even finer sutures, similar to those used in microvascular surgery. Dr. Lee is a recognized leader in the field of Asian eyelid surgery, performing both the incision and non-incision methods, and helping patients who need revision surgery from the US, Asia, and Europe. Dr. Lee recently published a textbook chapter in the Clinics in Plastic Surgery, an authoritative textbook in plastic surgery, describing his techniques and results to help teach other plastic surgeons.
After Dr. Lee completes his evaluation of your eyelids, he will determine the appropriateness of the procedure and the specific technique. The procedure is normally done under local anesthesia and usually takes about 1 hour.
Epicanthoplasty is a technique to open up the inner region of the eyelid where additional skin may obscure part of the eye. This procedure can be performed in conjunction with an Asian eyelid blepharoplasty, or alone depending on the patient’s anatomy and aesthetics. Epicanthoplasty is a technically demanding procedure requiring tiny incisions around the inner eye region. Various techniques in the past have resulted in significant scar; Dr. Lee performs the most advanced Medial Epicanthoplasty technique via a small lower lid incision to minimize scarring and improve consistency.
Asian Rhinoplasty differs from Caucasian rhinoplasty in that Asian noses typically need augmentation rather resection. Oftentimes this can be done with a silicone implant and in some cases, one’s own tissues (tissue/cartilage). The goal with any rhinoplasty is to attain a natural, dorsal aesthetic line; Asian rhinoplasty may be performed with additional tip and nasal width surgery to obtain a finer, more refined tip. Rhinoplasty requires precision and artistry to avoid an over augmented, over done appearance.
Dr. Lee has treated many patients who have sought his expertise for nasal surgery. He uses the open approach (incision at the base of nose) to precisely and accurately move, shape, and suture, the inner cartilage and access the dorsum. He specializes in shaping silicone implants (non-L-shaped implants) and using self tissues of cartilage or soft tissues. He is also called upon to help patients who have had nasal surgery elsewhere and need revisional surgery and/or removal of infected implants; these types of procedures which requires a high level of expertise and care.

Jaw muscle reduction
Jaw line reduction improves facial contour around the angle of the jaw and chin; this is often desired by patients who want a smoother, thinner line around the jaw region, rather than the more square appearance from an enlarged masseter muscle. This can be treated with the deft use of Botox for a temporary, smoother shape. Dr. Lee does not perform permanent, bone or muscle removing procedures for this area of the face.
